To all Master's and Doctoral students at the Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara, we would like to inform you that the guideline book for Thesis and Dissertation Writing is now available.

This guideline book is provided with the following objectives:

  1. Standardizing Key Writing Formats: This guideline aims to standardize the format for writing theses and dissertations within the Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara.
  2. Assisting Students in Writing: This guideline provides clear directions on the proper writing procedures according to the applicable academic standards, and it is a guide for students in composing their theses or dissertations.
  3. Guidance for the Advisory Committee: This guideline book is also helpful for the advisory committee in providing direction and supervision to students during the thesis or dissertation writing process.


Before starting your research, please ensure your advisory committee approves your research plan.

The writing procedures explained in the guideline book include materials, size, typing, numbering, table lists, figures, language, citation methods, bibliography writing, and appendix formatting.

For all students, thoroughly understand and follow these guidelines to ensure your academic work meets the expected standards.
