As many as 3,258 students from the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) underwent the graduation process at the USU Auditorium on Wednesday (Nov. 21, 2018). This graduation event marks the first graduation period from the academic year 2018/2019 and took place over two days, from November 21-22, 2018.
In his speech, USU Rector Prof. Dr. Runtung Sitepu S.H., M.Hum. congratulated the graduates who have successfully completed their studies. In addition to the graduates, Runtung also extended his congratulations to the parents and families who have supported the graduates' success.
"Brothers and sisters have successfully completed their studies at a certain level. May the knowledge acquired serve as a foundation for securing good employment or pursuing further studies at a higher level," he said.
Runtung also mentioned that in this graduation ceremony, several individuals graduated with the Highest GPA and the Cum Laude predicate.
They are: Widia Sujud Nadia, with a GPA of 3.77 from the Faculty of Law, Alex Wijaya with a GPA of 3.84 from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Cindy with a GPA of 3.61 from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cindy Naomi Tobing with a GPA of 3.84 from the Faculty of Public Health, Widodo with a GPA of 3.88 from the Faculty of Engineering, Alfath Nugroho Ihsan with a GPA of 3.71 from the Faculty of Dentistry.
Furthermore, from the Faculty of Nursing, Herman Syah with a GPA of 3.76, from the Faculty of Forestry Jody Agustiantoro with a GPA of 3.83, from the Faculty of Psychology Pinta Sri Yuliani Br. Ginting with a GPA of 3.64, Yudha Agus Pranata Barutu with a GPA of 3.78 from the Faculty of Agriculture, Adi Candra Silitonga with a GPA of 3.79 from the Faculty of Humanities, and Muhammad Raysiddiq with a GPA of 3.75 from the diploma program of the Faculty of Humanities, from the Faculty of Economics and Business Kartika Salim with a GPA of 3.83 and M. Yatta Aserega with a GPA of 3.73 from the diploma program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Rizky Chairani with a GPA of 3.71 and Aji Setya Wiguna with a GPA of 3.78 from the diploma program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Maura Rangkuti with a GPA of 3.68 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Putri.
"Meanwhile, in the Doctoral Program, Nurman Achmad had a GPA of 4.00 from the Development study program. The Master's Program recipient of the highest score is named Anton Adventus Kacaribu, with a GPA of 4.00 from the Property Management and Valuation Master's Program," he added.
Furthermore, during the USU graduation event, Runtung also mentioned that up to now, USU has achieved various accomplishments and advancements in different fields.
For instance, Runtung mentioned that the number of USU scientific publications indexed in Scopus for 2018 is 1,271, bringing the cumulative total to 2,415. This achievement places USU as the 3rd university with the most publications in Indonesia after the University of Indonesia and Bandung Institute of Technology.
"Based on these international publication achievements, in August last year, Scimago, as one of the world's ranking institutions, ranked USU at 674th globally after Diponegoro University and the University of Indonesia. In the ranking conducted by the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, USU's ranking rose from 19 in 2017 to 15 in 2018," he explained.
Moreover, in 2018, Runtung continued, a total of 8 USU Study Programs participated in international certification programs (ISO), with 6 of them receiving Gold status and the rest receiving Silver status. Runtung also noted that the students' achievements have also shown improvement.
He mentioned that all the achievements made are thanks to the hard work of the entire academic community, leading to significant progress. Therefore, he encourages all academic community members to continue improving their achievements in the future.
"May all the successes achieved motivate the entire academic community of USU to work even better in the future," he concluded.
