The Master's Program in Management at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (MM USU) organized the International Academic Exposure in Business & Management Program as part of its commitment to providing students with internationally oriented learning experiences. The program was designed to offer MM USU students opportunities to broaden their global perspectives through cross-border academic activities.
This initiative was developed in response to the growing demand for graduates who not only possess strong theoretical knowledge in management but also have global perspectives in understanding cross-border business dynamics. Through this program, MM USU aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the realities of international business practices, which continue to evolve alongside globalization.
Through this program, participants had the opportunity to engage in various academic activities that supported their understanding of global business development, management practices, and industrial trends. The program included academic discussions, visits to institutions and industry stakeholders, as well as direct interactions with academics and practitioners from partner countries, enabling participants to gain practical insights into the application of management concepts within an international business context.
Beyond expanding academic knowledge, this program encouraged students to enhance their critical thinking skills, develop international networks, and understand business dynamics from a global perspective. The cross-cultural interactions throughout the program also strengthened students’ awareness of diverse ways of thinking and working, providing essential competencies for navigating increasingly multicultural professional environments.
The program also created opportunities for students to expand their professional networks with fellow participants, academics, and practitioners from various countries. The connections established during the program are expected to support future academic collaborations and career opportunities while strengthening MM USU’s reputation as an internationally oriented management program.
The International Academic Exposure Program is expected to become one of MM USU’s flagship initiatives in improving the quality of its graduates by developing competencies, competitiveness, and international perspectives needed to address future workplace challenges and business developments.
The International Academic Exposure in Business & Management Program also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The international learning experiences gained by students contribute to SDG 4 – Quality Education by enriching the learning process through direct exposure to internationally recognized business and management practices. The development of students’ competencies in understanding global business dynamics supports SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth by preparing graduates with competitive skills and readiness to face challenges in the international workforce. Furthermore, the establishment of academic networks with institutions and partners from various countries reflects the principles of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, where cross-border collaboration plays a vital role in strengthening the quality of higher education globally.
Through this initiative, MM USU reaffirms its commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while expanding opportunities for students to grow within an increasingly global academic and business environment.
