Medan, September 9, 2026 — The Master’s Program in Property and Valuation Management(MMPP), Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), welcomed the Head of the Binjai City Transportation Agency, accompanied by relevant division heads, to discuss the technical aspects of a planned collaboration on the preparation of an Academic Study on the Parking System in Binjai City.

The meeting marked an initial step toward establishing a shared perspective between the university and the local government regarding the need to improve the planning and management of the parking system in Binjai City. The discussion focused on identifying technical requirements, assessing data availability and needs, and developing an academically grounded and solution-oriented framework for the study.

Through a comprehensive academic study, the parking system is expected to be developed into one that is more effective, well-organized, safe, inclusive, and sustainable. Parking management is not merely about providing space for vehicles; it is also closely related to traffic mobility, road-user safety, accessibility to public spaces, and the efficient utilization of urban land.

More systematic and well-planned parking management can also contribute to improved governance and the optimization of local government revenue. With a transparent, measurable, and data-driven system, the local government will have a stronger foundation for formulating parking policies while enhancing the quality of public services for the community.

The collaboration between MMPP USU and the Government of Binjai City is also aligned with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly :

  • SDG 1 – No Poverty, through strengthening local revenue governance and improving the quality of public services that contribute to community welfare.

This collaboration reflects MMPP USU’s commitment not only to advancing knowledge in the fields of property management and valuation, but also to providing academic solutions to real-world challenges faced by local governments.

Through this collaboration, the preparation of the Academic Study on the Parking System in Binjai City is expected to produce practical and applicable recommendations that can serve as one of the foundations for the Government of Binjai City in developing a parking system that is better organized, safer, more convenient, inclusive, and supportive of sustainable urban development.
