USU Master's Program in Valuation and Property Management (MMPP) regularly conducts academic activities to support students in acquiring competencies in the field of property and appraisal, as per the expected graduate competency targets.

The Master's Program in Valuation and Property Management (MMPP) at the Postgraduate School of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (SPs USU) regularly conducts academic activities to support students in acquiring competencies in the field of property and appraisal, as per the expected graduate competency targets. One of the programs prepared by MMPP-SPs USU to ensure graduate competency is to hold public lectures by inviting professional experts as guest speakers who share both knowledge and experience in the professional world. The purpose of this public lecture activity is to deepen and broaden the knowledge and skills of MMPP USU students in analyzing appraisal objects and to enhance their suitability as professionals in the field of appraisal.

In today's highly developed economy, property appraisal is said to have various functions, including determining compensation values due to land acquisition for government/public interests, determining compensation values for insurance purposes, determining the selling price of tax objects about the calculation of Land and Building Tax (PBB) and Acquisition Tax for Land and Building Rights (BPHTB); knowing the amount of state wealth or assets to determine the ability to pay debts; determining the value of assets that are collateral or security for banking, BPPN, and other financial institutions; and being used in the preparation of national and regional budgets. This description shows the importance of appraisal and value for a property/asset/wealth for the government or state, regions, and the private sector. The need for appraisers in the banking, non-banking, private, and state sectors is very high. Therefore, the MMPP USU Study Program strives always to improve the knowledge and understanding of MMPP students about appraisal so that MMPP alumni have superior competence in appraisal. Hence, a public lecture will be held that discusses appraisal topics, inviting professional experts as guest speakers.

On this occasion, MMPP SPs USU held a public lecture featuring the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Society of Property and Appraisers (MAPPI), Ir. Okky Danuza, M.Sc, MAPPI (Cert), delivered a public lecture on applying appraisal in the workplace while sharing experiences about activities in the field of property and appraisal. The public lecture activity was held in Room 101 of the Old Building of the USU Postgraduate School on Monday, September 18, 2017. The event was attended by MMPP students from various years, MMPP lecturers, and representatives from the USU rectorate.

The activity began with an opening by the master of ceremonies and continued with a prayer and gratitude to God Almighty for blessing the implementation of the public lecture activity. The next agenda was a welcome speech delivered by the Vice Rector III of the Universitas Sumatera Utara, Drs. Mahyuddin K. M. Nasution, M.I.T., Ph.D., for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation. He hoped that activities involving collaboration between USU and MAPPI would be increasingly implemented to support the competence of MMPP USU students and USU students in general. Next, a welcome speech was delivered by the Director of the USU Postgraduate School, Prof. Dr. Robert Sibarani, M.S., who showed his appreciation for the activities that have been carried out to improve the quality of MMPP students. He hoped that activities like this would be held regularly and that students would be willing to participate wholeheartedly while gaining as much knowledge and experience as possible from the guest speakers. The next agenda was a welcome speech from the General Chairperson of MAPPI, Ir. Okky Danuza, M.Sc, MAPPI (Cert), who expressed his appreciation and support for the activities and the involvement of USU and MAPPI in building positive cooperation.

The Public Lecture was held in the Old Building of the USU Postgraduate School, Room 101, on Monday, September 18, 2017. This event also served as a momentum for the signing of a contract extension for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Universitas Sumatera Utara and MAPPI for the next five years. Drs. Mahyuddin K. M. Nasution, M.I.T., Ph.D. from USU and Ir. Okky Danuza, M.Sc, MAPPI (Cert) from MAPPI, carried out the signing.

The public lecture activity began with a welcome to the new students of the 6th batch of MMPP SPs USU, delivered by the Secretary of the MMPP Study Program, Dr. Elisabet Siahaan, S.E., M.Ec. In her remarks, she conveyed messages and motivation to new students to be more active in facing increasingly advanced competition. She also gave an example of a public lecture activity as a momentum for students to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible from the guest speakers, from experts and specialists in the field of property and appraisal. The activity continued with a public lecture delivered by Ir. Okky Danuza, M.Sc, MAPPI (Cert), the handover of the MMPP student association management from the 5th batch to the 6th batch, and a closing ceremony.
