Jakarta, December 15, 2023 - The Post Graduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) marked its presence at the international seminar and annual meeting FORPIMPAS hosted at the Universitas Indonesia Campus in Jakarta on December 14 and 15, 2023. This significant gathering brought together eminent figures in academia to discuss the pivotal theme: "The Role of Post Graduate Education in Enhancing Quality of National Education and Human Capital: Epicentrum of Growth in Southeast Asia."
The distinguished representatives of the Post Graduate School of USU included Prof. Ir. T. Sabrina M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., the Director; Prof. Dr. Ir. Hamidah Harahap, M.Sc., the Second Vice Director; and Prof. Rahmawaty S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., the Leader of the Master's Program in Natural Resources and Environmental Management.
The event featured Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., the Rector of USU and the Leader of the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association in the Western Region, as one of the keynote speakers. His address delved into the essential role of postgraduate education in Southeast Asia's growth and the quality enhancement of national education and human capital.
The seminar comprised two insightful panel sessions, each addressing critical aspects of postgraduate education:
First Panel Session: The Challenge of Regional Education in Raising Quality of Post-Graduates.
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. A. Hanief Saha Ghafur, Head of the Strategic and Global Doctoral Studies Program at SKSG UI, shared insights into the challenges faced by regional education in elevating postgraduate quality.
- Prof. Dr. Kosuke Mizuno, from the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University, collaborated with the School of Environmental Science UI to shed light on regional educational challenges.
- Dr. Kurniawaty Iskandar, S.Sos., M.A., Head of the Academic Assurance Unit at SKSG Universitas Indonesia, moderated the session, ensuring a fruitful discussion.
Second Panel Session: The Role of University Alliance/Association in Managing Post Graduate Education and Creating High-Quality Human Capital.
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dony Abdul Chalid (SIL Universitas Indonesia-Indonesia), Prof. Dr. Ir. Hidayat (Tanjungpura University– Indonesia), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suraphong Lorsomradee (Chiang Mai University, Thailand) discussed the pivotal role of university alliances in shaping high-quality human capital.
- Dr. Phil. in Eng. Irene Sondang, from Universitas Indonesia, adeptly moderated the session, guiding the conversation towards actionable insights.
The international seminar and annual meeting served as a platform for meaningful discourse, fostering collaboration among institutions to advance postgraduate education's pivotal role in Southeast Asia's growth. The Post Graduate School of USU's active participation underscored its commitment to academic excellence and regional development.
