The Master's Program in Management at the Postgraduate School, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), continues to demonstrate its commitment to enhancing the quality of higher education through its active participation in the Workshop on Study Program Governance and Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum Development, hosted by the Master's Program in Management at Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin. The workshop was conducted as part of the Annual Meeting of the Western Indonesia Association of Master of Management Communication (PKMMB), bringing together Master's Programs in Management from across the region to exchange best practices, strengthen academic networks, and improve study program governance.
The workshop featured Prof. Dr. Nur Afifah, S.E., M.Si. from Tanjungpura University as the keynote speaker. She discussed strategic issues related to study program governance, the implementation of Outcome-Based Education (OBE), the formulation of Graduate Learning Outcomes (CPL), curriculum development, and the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) as an integral component of higher education quality assurance. These topics were designed to strengthen the readiness of study programs in meeting both national and international quality standards.
Participation in this workshop aligns with the vision of the USU Master's Program in Management: "To excel in the development of sustainable business management knowledge at the global level." Through strengthened academic governance and the implementation of an outcome-based curriculum, the Program continuously strives to develop an educational system that is responsive to advances in knowledge, industry needs, and global developments.
Furthermore, the workshop supports the implementation of the Program's first mission, which is to provide business management education through the development of the BINTANG character, TALENTA excellence, and professional human resources. The OBE approach, emphasizing learning outcomes, Student-Centered Learning, the Case Method, and Project-Based Learning, serves as the foundation for producing graduates who possess strong academic competencies while being capable of addressing complex managerial challenges based on scientific inquiry, ethical values, and integrity.
The workshop also reinforced the Program's second mission of producing graduates who are innovative, relevant, and globally competitive. By aligning graduate profiles, learning outcomes, curriculum structure, and OBE-based assessment systems, the USU Master's Program in Management continues to prepare graduates who can become effective change agents with strong competencies in business management at both the national and international levels.
Beyond educational development, the PKMMB forum also created opportunities for collaboration among Master's Programs in Management across Indonesia in the areas of research, community engagement, governance benchmarking, and academic partnerships. These collaborative initiatives are closely aligned with the Program's third mission of advancing research culture and community service that contribute meaningfully to society through the application of business management knowledge.
As a follow-up to the workshop, the USU Master's Program in Management will evaluate its curriculum based on OBE principles, review the alignment of graduate profiles and learning outcomes, strengthen the implementation of innovative learning approaches, develop a more systematic mechanism for measuring the achievement of graduate learning outcomes, and optimize the implementation of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) through continuous monitoring and evaluation. The Program will also leverage the PKMMB network to expand collaboration in education, research, community service, and the continuous improvement of academic governance.
Through its participation in this workshop, the Master's Program in Management at Universitas Sumatera Utara reaffirms its commitment to developing high-quality graduate education that is outcome-oriented and capable of producing graduates who are outstanding, professional, innovative, and well-equipped to contribute to the advancement of sustainable business management on the global stage.
