Various Activities Enliven the 38th Anniversary of SPs USU to Scientific Oration on AI
Medan - The Postgraduate School of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (SPs USU) successfully held its 38th Anniversary with various interesting activities, including a scientific oration discussing “The Transformation of Educational World Through Artificial Intelligence” at the USU Auditorium on Saturday (18/11).
Head of the Anniversary Committee Prof. Dr. Elisabeth Siahaan SE, M.Ec said the event this time was filled with MSME and health product bazaars as well as booths for consultation and free health checks. Another important thing, she continued, was also a scientific oration from Prof. DR. Eng. Hilman Ferdinandus Pardede ST, M Eng.
“This morning, we conducted a scientific oration by inviting the National Innovation Research Agency Prof. Hilman to discuss artificial intelligence. This means that now in the digital era, the Industrial Revolution 4.0 not only changes the way we work and interact but also promises great opportunities. Whether we want it or not, we must quickly adjust and be able to become people who master and utilize this, especially in the world of education, “said Prof. Elisabeth.
In addition to this scientific oration, the SPs USU Anniversary event was also equipped with a bazaar and health stand. “Then after that, we also have a bazaar for MSME products supported by the Office of Cooperatives and MSMEs, then supported by pharmaceutical companies that provide free blood checks, free bone checks, and there are also drug companies that provide free cholesterol checks, and blood sugar checks,” she said.
Elisabeth hopes that this event can be a gathering and promotion of SPs USU to the community. “This event is also a gathering event, strengthening good relations with partners and between USU Graduate School students and alumni. It is also a place to promote the existence of the USU Postgraduate School to the wider community,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ir. T. Sabrina, M.Agr. SC., PhD, said that the USU Postgraduate School has successfully achieved the ISO 21001.2018 certificate, which has improved the quality standards of education. He also added that this anniversary can strengthen brotherhood.
“This is an activity that routinely commemorates and evaluates what the USU Postgraduate School has done and what it wants to do in the future as well as a gathering place for alumni with new students. Alumni make new students more excited. “I hope Prof. Sabrina will make the new students more enthusiastic,” hoped Prof. Sabrina.
The scientific oration presented by Prof. Hilman, continued Sabrina, is very important because human resources (HR) will face considerable challenges in the future, and they must have new skills and knowledge needed to interact with and manage AI systems. “Not only for students, lecturers must also be ready to face this challenge,” she said.
Also present at the event was USU Secretary, Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG(K)-Fer. He also said that AI can foster innovation from various circles, especially in the world of education. With the development of technology, it must be utilized to improve learning and research.
