The PhD Program in Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara, has once again graduated a student through the implementation of an Open Doctoral Promotion Examination on behalf of Sarah Patumona Manalu.
The open examination was part of the completion of studies in the research-based doctoral program (by research), which is intended for students with academic backgrounds that support the completion of research-oriented doctoral studies. Through this pathway, students are directed to produce scholarly work that contributes to the development of science and solutions to environmental problems.
In the open examination, Sarah Patumona Manalu presented the results of her dissertation entitled “Model of Peatland Ecosystem Management in the Toba Highlands Based on Land Cover, Community Perceptions, and Peat Soil Quality.” This research examines the management of highland peatland ecosystems using an integrated approach that combines ecological and social aspects to support sustainable environmental management.
The Open Doctoral Promotion Examination was held on Friday, 19 December 2025, at the 2nd Floor Hall of the Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara, and was attended by program leadership, the board of examiners, and members of the academic community.
This achievement represents the commitment of the Environmental and Natural Resources Management Study Program, Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara, to delivering excellent research-based doctoral education that is relevant to the challenges of natural resource and environmental management in Indonesia.
