Prof. Rahmawaty from the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), served as one of Indonesia’s delegates at the 11th International Conference on Climate Change (ICCC-11), held at RMIT University, Australia, on 10–11 November 2025. The conference brought together global academics and policymakers to address challenges related to climate change and land-use governance.
In the opening remarks, Prof. Tim Marshall, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of RMIT University, emphasized the importance of global collaboration amid heightened attention to climate issues ahead of COP 30 in Brazil. He also highlighted the impacts of climate change on health, biodiversity, food security, and water systems across the ASEAN region.
Prof. Rahmawaty’s participation underscored Indonesia’s contribution to sustainable forestry and community-based climate adaptation. She noted that Indonesia, as a megabiodiversity country, holds significant experience in forest management, peatland governance, and ecosystem restoration—insights that can inform global climate solutions. She also underscored the need to strengthen research networks and international collaboration to ensure that scientific findings effectively inform public policy.
Prof. Marshall further reiterated RMIT’s commitment to expanding research partnerships with ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, as part of a collective effort to confront the climate crisis.
