Dr. Anggia Sari Lubis, S.E., M.Si., a faculty member of the Master's Program in Management, Postgraduate School, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), together with the Talenta 2026 Community Engagement Team and an international partner from Universiti Kuala Lumpur Business School, carried out a community engagement program in Bahorok District, Langkat Regency. The program, titled "Building a Sustainable Bahorok Economy through Digital Innovation, Community Empowerment, and Pentahelix Collaboration," aimed to strengthen sustainable ecotourism development through collaboration among universities, government institutions, businesses, local communities, and other stakeholders.
During the program, the team introduced Langkat Green Hub, a digital platform that integrates information on tourist destinations, tour guide services, homestays, local MSMEs, and conservation activities into a single digital ecosystem. The platform is expected to enhance tourism promotion, expand market access for local businesses, and improve the competitiveness of Langkat Regency's tourism sector.
The initiative is closely aligned with the vision of the USU Master's Program in Management to produce innovative, globally competitive managers with meaningful social impact. By applying digital innovation and international collaboration, the Program demonstrates how business management knowledge can be translated into practical solutions that contribute to local economic development. The program also supports its mission of delivering business management education grounded in the BINTANG character and TALENTA excellence, producing innovative graduates, and fostering a strong culture of research and community engagement.
The collaboration with Universiti Kuala Lumpur Business School further strengthens the Program's international network while creating broader opportunities for cooperation in education, research, and community engagement. The participation of international partners also provides a global perspective on the importance of digital transformation and community participation in developing inclusive and sustainable ecotourism.
Through this initiative, the USU Master's Program in Management reaffirms its commitment to generating innovations that create tangible benefits for society. The development of Langkat Green Hub is expected to serve as a collaborative empowerment model that enhances community welfare while supporting sustainable tourism development in Indonesia.
