The Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management of USU Graduate School conducted visits to several local governments in the Nias Islands, namely in Nias Regency, North Nias, West Nias, and Gunungsitoli City. This activity is part of efforts to expand the network and improve the competence of civil servants (ASN) in regional asset management. Through this activity, the importance of mastering asset management and valuation for increasing Regional Original Revenue (PAD) was socialized, while also introducing the Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management to civil servants as potential prospective students.
The Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management, Graduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), conducted a working visit to several regions in the Nias Islands, namely Nias Regency, North Nias Regency, West Nias Regency, and Gunungsitoli City. This activity is part of a strategic roadshow to introduce the Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management SPs USU and strengthen the working network, led directly by the Head of the Study Program, Prof. Dr. Elisabet Siahaan, SE, M.Ec. The primary focus of this visit is to improve the competence of Civil Servants (ASN) in regional asset management and valuation through education in the Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management for ASN as strategic prospective students.
This activity is based on the urgent need of local governments for excellent and professional human resources in asset management as a strategic effort to increase Regional Own Revenue (PAD). In meetings with regional heads, government officials, and ASN, Prof. Elisabet emphasized that the modern era demands civil servants understand administrative asset management, perform economic valuations of asset values, identify optimization potential, and formulate effective data—and policy-based management strategies.
“Good asset management starts from excellent human resources. We hope that through further education in the Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management at USU, civil servants in the Nias Islands can become the driving force in creating a transparent, accountable, and results-oriented asset management system,” said Prof. Elisabet during her visit to the Gunungsitoli City Government.
In Nias and North Nias Regencies, discussions with local government officials were constructive and full of a collaborative spirit. The local governments warmly welcomed the presence of the Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management as a tangible form of support from higher education in addressing local challenges, especially in suboptimal regional asset management.
“We see great enthusiasm from civil servants to improve their capacity. Collaboration between USU and local governments is essential in building human resources capable of making real contributions to efficient asset governance and directly impacting community welfare,” explained Prof. Elisabet.
The local governments also expressed their commitment to exploring further cooperation through MoAs (Memorandum of Agreement) and regional scholarship opportunities for civil servants who continue their studies at USU.
The visit to West Nias Regency was warm and full of enthusiasm. The direct welcome from the Regent of West Nias and his staff symbolized strong support for improving the quality of human resources through postgraduate education. Prof. Elisabet described Nias as a “hidden gem” with great potential in human resources, culture, and the local government's commitment to progress.
“Through quality education and strengthening asset management competencies, we hope the young generation of Nias can become future leaders who bring change without forgetting their identity,” she said during a discussion session with civil servants and local officials.
In addition to engaging with local governments, the Master's Program in Property and Valuation Management SPs USU also made an honorary visit to Nias University, the only university in the region. Warmly welcomed by the Rector and all officials, this visit inspired academic dialogue.
“Happy to meet extraordinary educators at Nias University. We are proud to share insights and enthusiasm with dedicated administrators and lecturers building higher education in the Nias Islands,” said Prof. Elisabet.
