Berastagi, September 30 - October 4, 2024 – Karo Regency witnessed the successful implementation of the Business Training and Management Workshop held at Hotel Green Berastagi. The event featured high-quality materials from practitioners from the Master of Management Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). It was attended by over 30 Small and Medium Industry (IKM) entrepreneurs from Tanah Karo.
This workshop provided IKM entrepreneurs with insights and skills to manage their businesses professionally, enhance competitiveness, and seize opportunities amid modern economic challenges. Under the theme "Building Economic Independence through Innovation and Effective Business Management," participants were expected to implement relevant strategies in their ventures.
Over five days, participants received training from experts in the Master of Management Program at USU, covering key topics such as:
- Digital Marketing Strategies – Teaching IKM entrepreneurs how to utilize social media and digital platforms to expand their market.
- Micro Business Financial Management – Providing practical guidance on capital management and financial flow.
- Product Innovation – Encouraging participants to create added value in their products to increase competitiveness.
- The Importance of Branding and Packaging – Building a strong brand image to enhance the appeal of local products.
One of the speakers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Meilita Tryana Sembiring, ST, MT, IPU, emphasized the importance of innovation in sustaining businesses. "In this era of globalization, IKM entrepreneurs must adapt to technological advancements and market demands. Creativity is the key to success," she stated.
Participants, most of whom were entrepreneurs in agribusiness, handicrafts, and Tanah Karo’s traditional culinary sector, showed great enthusiasm. Siti Wahyuni, one of the participants, expressed her appreciation:
"This workshop provided me with valuable knowledge that I can immediately apply. I now better understand how to manage my finances and market my products online."
Positive Impact on the Local Economy
This event is expected to drive local economic growth by empowering IKM entrepreneurs to become more productive and independent. Additionally, the presence of USU’s Master of Management practitioners strengthens the collaboration between academia and the community, creating targeted solutions for regional economic challenges.
