On Friday, October 13, 2023, a momentous event occurred in the Hall of Master of Management, Postgraduate School of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). The event was “Debriefing and Technical Guidance on Signing the Flagship Scholarship Contract.” The primary purpose of this event was to provide the recipients of the Excellence Scholarship with necessary information regarding their rights and obligations, the components they will receive during the scholarship, the duration of the scholarship, provisions for leave of absence in education, current issues surrounding scholarships, student attitudes in the digital era, and the benefits of networking.
Scholarship Unggulan is a tuition fee program provided by the Indonesian government to the best sons and daughters of the Indonesian people pursuing higher education at universities receiving students of the Scholarship Unggulan program. This program has several different types of scholarships, including:
1. Outstanding Community Scholarship: Awarded to individuals who have made achievements in academic and non-academic fields, both at international and national levels. They are expected to improve the nation's competitiveness in various fields significantly.
2. Ministry Employee Scholarships: Awarded to government employees pursuing higher education programs.
3. Non-Degree Flagship Scholarships: These scholarships are awarded to students participating in workshops, residencies, internships, short courses, conferences, research, and design in education and culture.
4. Persons with Disabilities Scholarship: Awarded to individuals with disabilities with outstanding potential and achievements.
5. Scholarship Awards: Awarded to biological children of parents who died in the performance of state duties and/or state service, as well as to families of victims of gross human rights.
The event ended with a critical moment: the scholarship recipients signed the flagship scholarship contract. By signing this contract, the students committed to abide by the rights and obligations explained in the briefing event.
Through this event, it is hoped that the Scholarship of Excellence recipients will better understand their roles and responsibilities and be able to use this scholarship to support their education. This is essential in ensuring this valuable resource produces competent young people who contribute positively to the nation's progress.
