The Master's Program in Management at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (MM USU), in collaboration with GoTo Corp, conducted an academic visit to Vietnam as part of its commitment to enhancing experience-based international education. The program was attended by MM USU faculty members and students to broaden their understanding of global business practices, management approaches, and industrial developments.

The collaboration between MM USU and GoTo Corp in this initiative represents a form of synergy between academia and industry in preparing graduates to face challenges in the global business environment. Through this partnership, MM USU extends learning beyond the classroom by providing students with real-world learning experiences derived directly from cross-border business practices, enabling them to gain a more comprehensive understanding of industry dynamics.

During the program, participants visited several educational institutions and industry partners in Vietnam to gain first-hand insights into business management practices, marketing strategies, and innovation approaches implemented in the country. Participants also engaged in discussion sessions and knowledge-sharing activities with local practitioners and academics, providing valuable perspectives on Vietnam’s economic, social, and business development landscape.

Through this academic visit, participants had opportunities to interact directly with various institutions and partners in Vietnam. In addition to enriching their academic experiences, the visit served as a platform to strengthen international networks, exchange knowledge, and understand best practices that can be adapted for the advancement of education and business development in Indonesia.

The program also contributed positively to participants’ soft skill development, including adaptability in multicultural environments, cross-cultural communication skills, and the ability to identify business opportunities in international markets. The experiences gained throughout the visit are expected to serve as valuable preparation for students in facing increasingly competitive and globally oriented professional environments.

This program is expected to further strengthen collaboration between academia and industry while supporting the development of students’ competencies to compete in the global business environment. MM USU also hopes that its partnership with GoTo Corp can continue and expand through similar programs in the future.

The academic visit to Vietnam aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The international learning experiences gained by students contribute to SDG 4 – Quality Education by enriching the learning process through direct exposure to global business and management practices. Understanding business practices, innovation, and industrial strategies in Vietnam also supports SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth by preparing students with relevant competencies to compete in the global business environment. Furthermore, the collaboration between MM USU, GoTo Corp, and various institutions and partners in Vietnam reflects the principles of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, where synergy among academia, industry, and international partners plays a crucial role in strengthening higher education quality and creating opportunities for cross-border collaboration.

Through this initiative, MM USU reaffirms its commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while expanding strategic collaborations between academia and industry to develop graduates with global competitiveness.
