The Master’s Program in Property Management and Valuation (MMPP), School of Postgraduate Studies at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), hosted a special series of activities on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the USU Postgraduate Auditorium. Running from 08.30 to 13.00 WIB, the event encompassed several key agendas: welcoming new students, appreciating the 2024/2025 Student Association board, inaugurating the 2025/2026 board, and presenting public lectures by distinguished experts in property regulation and valuation.

The program commenced with the welcoming of new MMPP students. The newcomers were warmly greeted by program leaders, faculty members, and senior students, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and enthusiasm. This moment served as an introduction to the academic environment, the vision and mission of the program, and the spirit of belonging to the MMPP USU community.

The event then proceeded with an appreciation session for the outgoing Student Association board (2024/2025), acknowledging their dedication, hard work, and contributions to academic and organizational activities, as well as their efforts in strengthening ties among students, alumni, and faculty. Following this, the inauguration of the new Student Association board for the 2025/2026 period marked the beginning of a new leadership term, expected to bring innovation, expand networks, and foster a productive and collaborative academic atmosphere.

After the institutional proceedings, the program continued with a guest lecture series highlighting contemporary issues in policy and property valuation. The first speaker, Paisal Girsang, MMPP, presented a comprehensive discussion on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 46 of 2025, which amends Perpres No. 16 of 2018 on Government Procurement of Goods and Services. He emphasized key regulatory changes, the urgency of implementing the new regulation, and its implications for academics, practitioners, and students, stressing its importance for promoting transparency, efficiency, and accountability in procurement governance.

The second lecture was delivered by Juliardi, MMPP, MAPPI (Cert.), who presented on Cost, Price, and Value in Property Valuation: A Case Study of Palm Oil Mills. His presentation highlighted the significance of distinguishing these three concepts in property valuation, particularly regarding palm oil plantation assets, which play a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy. He also underscored the importance of adopting professional valuation methods to ensure accurate and relevant value estimates for business, investment, and public policy purposes.

The academic discussion was highly interactive, with active engagement from students, faculty, and alumni. Participants eagerly posed questions, shared experiences, and exchanged views on current issues related to property valuation, procurement, and their relevance to sustainable development. The presence of speakers with both academic and professional backgrounds enriched the lectures with practical insights and real-world context.

Through this event, the MMPP program reaffirmed its commitment to providing not only formal classroom education but also collaborative learning spaces that enhance students’ knowledge and strengthen academic and professional networks. The welcoming ceremony, appreciation session, board inauguration, and guest lectures are expected to serve as a valuable momentum to strengthen solidarity, elevate academic capacity, and open new opportunities for collaboration in the future.

With the success of this event, MMPP USU further solidifies its position as a visionary study program that is adaptive to global developments and competitive at the international level.
