Medan, February 13–16, 2025 — The Master's Program in Management at the Universitas Sumatera Utara (MM USU) organized the International Mobility Program and Cultural Exchange in Malaysia and Thailand as part of its commitment to enhancing educational quality and expanding international collaboration in the era of globalization. This academic exchange and study visit program provided students with valuable opportunities to gain first-hand learning experiences in an international environment.
The program was designed to broaden students' understanding of the educational systems, cultures, and socio-economic developments of Malaysia and Thailand. It also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between Indonesian higher education institutions and their counterparts in both countries while enhancing participants' understanding of cultural diversity and educational systems, as well as developing their communication and collaboration skills in an international setting.
The program began with visits to educational institutions in Malaysia, where participants learned about the local education system and engaged in academic discussions with faculty members and students. The activities continued with a variety of cultural exchange experiences, including introductions to local culture, visits to historical landmarks, and interactions with local communities. These activities enabled participants to gain a deeper appreciation of cultural diversity while fostering stronger international relationships.
Following the activities in Malaysia, the program continued in Thailand, where participants took part in academic programs and educational visits aimed at expanding their understanding of the country's social, economic, and cultural development. Throughout the program, participants also attended discussion sessions, presentations, and collaborative activities that provided valuable hands-on learning experiences in an international academic environment.
Through the International Mobility Program and Cultural Exchange in Malaysia and Thailand, participants not only gained international academic experience but also developed a deeper understanding of the cultural and educational differences between the two countries. The program strengthened academic partnerships and networks among students and higher education institutions while enhancing participants' communication skills, adaptability, and global perspectives.
The Master's Program in Management at the Universitas Sumatera Utara hopes to continue organizing similar programs in the future as part of its ongoing commitment to improving educational quality and expanding international collaboration among higher education institutions.
The International Mobility Program and Cultural Exchange in Malaysia and Thailand also aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By providing students with opportunities to learn and engage in academic discussions directly with educational institutions in Malaysia and Thailand, the program contributes to SDG 4 – Quality Education, expanding access to international learning experiences and enriching participants' understanding of educational systems in other countries. Participants' exposure to cultural diversity and interaction with local communities also supports SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities by fostering mutual respect for cultural, social, and national differences. Furthermore, the collaboration established between Indonesian universities and educational institutions in Malaysia and Thailand reflects the principles of SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating the importance of international cooperation in strengthening the quality of higher education on a global scale.
Through this initiative, the Master's Program in Management at the Universitas Sumatera Utara reaffirms its commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while expanding international partnerships that contribute to the academic and professional development of students and the institution.
