Medan City, August 04, 2023 - The Postgraduate School of the Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and the Regional Planning and Development Agency (Bappeda) of Southeast Aceh Regency established an important partnership in the preparation of a Strategic Environmental Assessment (KLHS). On Friday, August 04, 2023, at the USU Postgraduate School building, the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was held as a stage of approval of the cooperative relationship, which was realized in the form of a written document.
The signing of the MoA is an important milestone involving the USU Postgraduate School and the Southeast Aceh Bappeda in an effort to prepare a Strategic Environmental Assessment that is essential for designing the Long-Term Development Plan (RPJP) of the Southeast Aceh District Government.
In his opening remarks, a representative from Bappeda Aceh Tenggara explained that an SEA study is important in the early stages of preparing the RPJP. This study aims to understand the environmental impacts of long-term development plans so that policies can be in accordance with the principles of sustainability and maintain the environmental ecosystem in Southeast Aceh.
The collaboration between Bappeda Aceh Tenggara and the USU Postgraduate School is not new, considering that the Aceh Tenggara District Government has previously collaborated with this leading university to implement the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. With the spirit of collaboration that has been established previously, the signing of this MoA marks a joint commitment to carry out efforts to prepare quality SEA in accordance with established standards.
The SEA study and the long-term development plan to be developed in the RPJP will be important guidelines for the elected Bupati and Vice Bupati who will lead Aceh Tenggara after the elections in 2024. This document will serve as the basis for making decisions that have a broad impact on the direction of development and policy in Aceh Tenggara and on carrying out the vision and mission of their government during their tenure.

A strong commitment to environmental sustainability and ensuring sustainable development is the main focus of this collaboration. The USU Postgraduate School and Bappeda Aceh Tenggara hope that this collaboration will bring great benefits to the people and environment in Aceh Tenggara, and help create more sustainable development.
