The Master's Program in Management of the School of Postgraduate, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering internationally oriented learning experiences through the organization of a Study Excursion to Penang, Malaysia, held from 25–27 June 2026. The program was designed to enhance students' competencies by integrating academic learning, industry visits, and exposure to international history and culture into a comprehensive educational experience.
The study excursion was conducted in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) as the academic partner. Through this collaboration, students had the opportunity to participate in academic activities that provided valuable insights into the advancement of management science, global business practices, and the evolving industrial landscape in Malaysia. The program also served to strengthen institutional relationships while opening opportunities for future academic collaboration between the two universities.
Throughout the program, students attended academic sessions led by lecturers and industry practitioners, engaging in discussions on contemporary management issues and gaining a deeper understanding of how management theories are applied in real business environments. In addition, participants visited industrial facilities to observe operational processes, organizational management systems, and quality management practices implemented in international business settings. These experiences provided practical insights into how organizations achieve competitive advantage through innovation, operational excellence, and effective resource management.
Beyond its academic and industrial components, the study excursion also introduced students to the rich history and cultural heritage of Penang, one of Southeast Asia's leading educational and economic destinations. Exposure to an international environment was expected to enhance students' intercultural communication skills, broaden their global perspectives, and cultivate adaptive leadership qualities essential for today's rapidly changing business landscape.
Through this Study Excursion, the Master's Program in Management Universitas Sumatera Utara aims to equip students with stronger analytical capabilities, strategic thinking skills, and broader global perspectives to address the challenges of an increasingly competitive business environment. The program reflects USU's ongoing commitment to producing highly qualified graduates with global competitiveness who are well prepared to contribute at both the national and international levels.
