Delegates of the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSL) USU participated in a Field Study Trip in Langkawi as the concluding agenda of the 3rd IBIOSDG 2025. This field study served as a bridge between theoretical discourse and practical approaches to sustainable ecotourism management.

The closing of the 3rd International Conference on Biodiversity and Sustainable Development (IBIOSDG) 2025 was marked by a Field Study Trip in Langkawi on Friday, 28 November 2025. This field activity provided a direct link between the theoretical discussions presented during the conference and the real-world practices of sustainable ecotourism management.

Delegates from the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSL) USU, accompanied by Prof. A. Rauf and Prof. Rahmawaty, along with several students and alumni, joined the visit to observe firsthand the implementation of the conference theme, Eco-Tourism: Bridging Biodiversity and Inclusive Development.

The main destination was the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park, where delegates explored mangrove biodiversity, karst formations, and conservation strategies rooted in geo-ecotourism. The agenda continued with visits to Pantai Cenang and Dataran Helang, including interactions with local business owners as part of learning about tourism value chains.

Head of the PSL USU Program, Prof. Rahmawaty, noted that this activity provided students with highly relevant empirical experiences that support their ongoing research. Meanwhile, Prof. A. Rauf emphasized that direct field observation is expected to strengthen research quality and contribute to the development of policy recommendations for natural resource management in Indonesia.
