"I am truly delighted that we have been deemed worthy of receiving this certification. We are committed to continuous improvement because evaluations will be conducted annually," she added.

The Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially obtained the ISO 21001:2018 certification on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, following a thorough and rigorous assessment process. This achievement signifies that USU's postgraduate management and educational services are now internationally standardized.

Prof. Ir. T. Sabrina, M.Agr. Sc., Ph.D., the Director of the Postgraduate School at USU, expressed her joy over this significant accomplishment. She emphasized that this certification validates that USU's postgraduate programs are on par with other higher education institutions, both domestically and internationally, that uphold high management standards.

"Although USU already had an internal quality assurance system in place, it was only applicable at the local level and had not yet received official certification," she explained. With ISO certification, the broader public can observe how the institution aligns its processes with international standards.

"I am truly delighted that we have been deemed worthy of this certification. We are committed to continuous improvement because evaluations will be conducted annually," she added.

Two programs under the Postgraduate School at USU have received ISO certification: the Postgraduate program and the Master of Management program. Prof. Sabrina expressed her hopes that other programs under the Postgraduate School will also obtain certification.

"Why did the Master of Management program receive certification first? Because it has a large student population, and students in this program require assurance that they are studying at an institution that adheres to international standards," she explained.

Achmad Tirmizi Hutasoit, S.T., M.M., President and Director of PT QIMS Intrasindo, elaborated that ISO certification pertains to the management system of educational organizations. With this certification, USU’s Postgraduate School has officially met the international requirements for an academic management system.

"In the future, the Postgraduate School of USU will undergo an annual surveillance audit to ensure that the system is continuously maintained according to the required standards," he stated.

Tirmizi also shared his excitement regarding USU’s success in obtaining ISO certification. He highlighted that ISO is crucial in establishing effective work procedures and management systems that control internal processes to achieve performance objectives, particularly in education services and quality assurance.

"This ISO certification represents the highest standard in management systems. However, with this certification, there must be continuous improvements each year. For instance, if the service quality is rated at seven this year, it should increase to 7.5 or 8 in the following year. The goal is to ensure that the quality of education consistently improves over time," he added.

"Essentially, the ISO system involves planning, execution, evaluation, improvement, and enhancement to ensure that service performance continuously improves," he concluded.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for USU’s Postgraduate School, reinforcing its commitment to providing high-quality education that meets international standards.
