The Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara (SPs USU) held a Curriculum Deconstruction Workshop for the Master's Program in Regional and Rural Development Planning (S2 PWD) and the Doctoral Program in Regional Planning (S3 PW) on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the SPs USU Meeting Room. The event focused on revising the curriculum based on Ministerial Regulation No. 53/2023, which is set to be implemented in August 2025.
Medan, December 2, 2024 – The Postgraduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara (SPs USU) conducted a Curriculum Deconstruction Workshop for the Master's Program in Regional and Rural Development Planning (S2 PWD) and the Doctoral Program in Regional Planning (S3 PW). The event occurred in the SPs USU Meeting Room, 1st Floor, from 08:00 AM until completion.
The workshop was attended by various stakeholders, including the Head of the S2 PWD and S3 PW Programs, Dr. Ir. Satia Negara Lubis, M.Ec., Prof. Dr. Ir. Evawany Yunita Aritonang, M.Si., Dr. Achmad Siddik Thoha, S.Hut., M.Si., and moderator Dr. Ir. Charloq, MP. Faculty members, alumni, SPs staff, master's PWD students, and doctoral PW students were also present.
The workshop focused on curriculum revisions aligned with Ministerial Regulation No. 53 of 2023, to be implemented in August 2025. Key discussion points included:
Curriculum Deconstruction: Identifying hidden assumptions, values, and structures to enhance the quality and relevance of education.
Outcome-Based Education (OBE): Emphasizing specific and measurable learning outcomes to ensure graduates acquire critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Course Flexibility: Introducing elective courses, including those based on local wisdom, to better align with student needs.
Industry Relevance: Developing a curriculum aligned with industry needs, incorporating internships, entrepreneurship, and big data analysis.
Technology Integration: Encouraging the use of information technology in learning and research.
Participants provided valuable feedback:
OBE-based learning was agreed upon as the ideal approach.
Core courses should be minimized, with more flexible elective courses added.
Courses related to rural development should be emphasized in the S2 PWD program.
The importance of instructors with relevant academic and professional backgrounds.
Suggestions for additional elective courses such as Hospitality and Big Data Analysis.
Independent courses based on OBE should be developed in line with the latest trends.
This workshop represents a strategic initiative by SPs USU to ensure that graduates of the S2 PWD and S3 PW programs possess outstanding competencies, are relevant to the needs of the job market, and can make meaningful contributions to regional development and sustainable growth in Indonesia.
